kennedy
as reported by The Australian newspaper 2007 was a horrible year for CD sales in the world, never so low since 1985. (The article is here )
the root cause of this disaster, according to John Kennedy (not that Kennedy, of course, but one of the leaders of IFPI), is the illegal copying of discs, piracy, peer to peer. and it is understandable.
but at the same time, kennedy and friends may not understand that CDs are too expensive, often the majors (which are now almost three and control the world market) made bad investments and artistic choices wicked, wretched and amateur, squandering billions on promoting products unsaleable? that for years the average quality of the so-called commercial music stood at an infinitesimal level?
piracy and illegal downloading - that should be fought and opposed - may not be the only explanation. too easy, mr. kennedy.
